Submission Format: Completed Google Sheet + Brief Written Summary (PDF or DOCX) (Moodle)
Objective
In this assignment, your team will identify, analyze, and assess potential risks that may impact the success of your software engineering project. You will use the provided Risk Assessment Tables as a structured framework to guide your analysis.
This exercise will help you:
- Think proactively about what could go wrong
- Understand the likelihood and impact of various project risks
- Develop mitigation strategies to reduce the probability or consequences of those risks
📂 Instructions
- Open the Risk Tables Access the shared Google Sheet here:
👉 Project Risk Tables - Review the Structure The spreadsheet is organized into several key sections:
- Risk Categories (e.g., Planning, Technical, Team, Client)
- Specific Risks within each category
- Columns for Probability (P), Impact (I), and Risk Score (P × I)
- Columns for Mitigation Strategy and Contingency Plan
- Complete the Risk Table As a team:
- Evaluate each listed risk in the table
- Assign a Probability (1–5): 1 = very unlikely, 5 = very likely
- Assign an Impact (1–5): 1 = minimal impact, 5 = project-threatening
- The Risk Score (P × I) will auto-calculate
- Propose a Mitigation Strategy for each risk (how to reduce likelihood)
- Propose a Contingency Plan (what to do if the risk occurs)
- Add New Risks (Optional but Recommended) If you identify other project-specific risks that aren’t listed, add them to the appropriate section at the bottom of the relevant category. This will show your team’s ability to think critically about your unique context.
- Write a Brief Summary Submit a 1–2 page written summary that answers the following:
- What are your top 3 highest-risk items?
- How does your team plan to proactively manage them?
- What surprised you during the risk analysis process?
- What changes (if any) will you make to your project plan as a result?
✅ Deliverables
- ✔️ Completed Google Sheet (one per team)
- ✔️ Written Risk Summary (PDF or DOCX)
Submit both files to Moodle
